How Les Monts Started

Here's some insights into how the Les Monts Hedgehog Rescue was initially created. To find out more about Harry, the first Les Monts hedgehog, keep an eye out for the release of Harry's Tales.

Chris used to live in Guernsey, a small channel island. Whilst there, she agreed to foster two hedgehogs over the Winter season and quickly became hooked! The hedgehogs were returned to the hedgehog rescue, but having caught a passion for caring for hedgehogs, Chris trained with the GSPCA, the Guernsey equivalent of the RSPCA and later gained qualifications with the Vale Animal Hospital.

Following training with the GSPCA, Chris adopted her first injured hedgehog, Harry. Sadly, Harry was a victim of a gardening accident with a strimmer, but was fortunate to have been found and taken to the GSPCA hospital, where he was initially treated.

After a few weeks of treatment at the hospital, Harry was adopted by Chris, who continued his treatment and care from her home, called Les Monts. Sadly, Harry needed a lot of care, owing to his injuries, but Chris, with help from her son Matt, gave Harry the treatment he needed, providing a loving, warm and safe home.

Since then, Les Monts has grown, continuing to foster, treat and rehabilitate more and more hedgehogs each year, with the help of volunteers, supporters and the improved facilities of the hedgehog hospital, which has allowed the rescue to help more hedgehogs than ever before!
